Rangers 3, Athletics 0: At Arlington, Texas, Pedro Astacio pitched eight shutout innings for his first win in nearly two years Tuesday, as Texas beat Oakland.
Royals 6, Indians 5: Alberto Castillo homered off Arthur Rhodes with two outs in the ninth inning, giving Kansas City a victory over visiting Cleveland. Castillo, a 10-year major league veteran with only 10 previous homers in 904 at-bats, also had two singles and scored three times.
Blue Jays 4, Red Sox 3: At Boston, Corey Koskie singled home the go-ahead run in the ninth with his fourth hit, and Roy Halladay pitched eight strong innings to lead Toronto over Boston.
Orioles 8, Tigers 4: Brian Roberts kept up his surprising power surge with a three-run homer, and Miguel Tejada and Rafael Palmeiro added solo shots to lead Baltimore over visiting Detroit.
Devil Rays 6, Yankees 2: Eduardo Perez hit two home runs off Randy Johnson, Hideo Nomo pitched effectively into the sixth inning on three days’ rest and Tampa Bay ended an 11-game losing streak at Yankee Stadium with a victory over New York.
White Sox 3, Twins 1: At Chicago, Paul Konerko hit his major league-leading seventh home run and Orlando Hernandez pitched six shutout innings, sending Chicago to victory over Minnesota.
National League
Mets 16, Phillies 4: At Philadelphia, David Wright hit a grand slam, Jose Reyes and Victor Diaz each homered twice and the New York Mets hit a team-record seven Tuesday night in a 16-4 rout of the Philadelphia. Mike Piazza and Doug Mientkiewicz also homered, and Wright and Diaz each went 2 for 4 with four RBIs for the Mets, who stopped a two-game skid.
Dodgers 8, Brewers 6 (10): At Milwaukee, Milton Bradley hit a two-run homer in the 10th inning, and Los Angeles rallied from a six-run deficit to beat Milwaukee and extend its winning streak to seven games.
Rockies 8, Diamondbacks 1: The beat-up Colorado bullpen held up, getting the final four outs to preserve a nice start by Jeff Francis and a victory over visiting Arizona.
Marlins 6, Nationals 3: At Washington, D.C., Brian Moehler earned his first major league win in 2 1/2 years, Carlos Delgado hit Florida’s first homer in six games, and the Marlins used a five-run third inning to beat Washington.
Cardinals 7, Pirates 1: Matt Morris breezed in his first start since offseason shoulder surgery, limiting the Pirates to four hits in six innings to help St. Louis to victory and a two-game sweep in Pittsburgh.
Cubs 7, Reds 1: At Cincinnati, Corey Patterson started Chicago’s three-homer burst and made two catches against the wall that pulled Mark Prior through an ominous first inning, steadying the Cubs to victory over Cincinnati.
Astros 5, Braves 3: Willy Taveras hit his first major league home run, and Brandon Backe got his first win of the season, leading Houston over visiting Atlanta.
Padres 5, Giants 2: At San Diego, Brian Lawrence threw eight strong innings, and Geoff Blum and Ramon Hernandez each drove in two runs to give San Diego a win over San Francisco.
