Thursday’s games
American League
Blue Jays 7, Devil Rays 4: At Toronto, Gregg Zaun hit a three-run home run in a five-run sixth inning, and Toronto completed a three-game sweep of Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay tied a season high with its fourth straight loss and dropped to 1-7 on the road.
Twins 6, Royals 5 (11): At Kansas City, Mo., Lew Ford singled home the go-ahead run off Mike Wood in the 11th, lifting Minnesota over Kansas City and completing the first 0-6 homestand in Royals history. Kansas City lost its eighth in a row.
Tigers 3, Indians 2: At Cleveland, Mike Maroth made just two bad pitches in six innings, holding Cleveland to four hits and leading Detroit to its fourth straight win. Maroth (2-1) gave up solo homers to Casey Blake and Jhonny Peralta in the fifth, but the left-hander had few other issues with the majors’ worst-hitting team.
Angels 3, Yankees 1: At New York, John Lackey combined with four relievers to shut down the all-or-nothing Yankees, and Los Angeles got RBI singles from Vladimir Guerrero and Darin Erstad in a victory.
National League
Brewers 4, Cardinals 3: At St. Louis, Chris Capuano won for the first time since August, helping himself with a double at the plate as Milwaukee beat St. Louis and avoided a three-game sweep. Russell Branyan homered and Brady Clark had a two-run double for the Brewers, who won for the third time in 13 games and defeated the Cardinals for the first time in six meetings this season.
Marlins at Rockies (DH), ppd.: The doubleheader between Florida and Colorado at Denver was postponed because of rain and cold. No makeup dates were announced.
