Plane makes highway landing

Associated Press

AUBURN, Wash. – A small, single-engine plane made an emergency landing on State Highway 18 Monday afternoon, just east of the Green River near this city southeast of Seattle.

The Cessna 210 apparently lost power for an undetermined reason and landed on the road about 4:15 p.m.

Nobody was hurt, no vehicles were struck, and television footage showed no visible damage to the plane, which was towed off the highway.

Traffic in the highway’s eastbound lanes was backed up for about an hour when just one of three lanes remained open while the plane was on the roadway.

The plane’s owner and pilot, Gaylen M. Talley, of Renton, said he was able to find a “slot” in the highway’s vehicle traffic to land.

“It says a lot for his flying skills,” said Allen Kenitzer, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration.
