Red Sox 8, Royals 5: At Boston, Manny Ramirez hit his league-leading 30th homer then left the game after a collision with teammate Edgar Renteria, and Boston defeated Kansas City for its seventh consecutive win.

Twins 4, Athletics 3: At Minneapolis, Lew Ford’s triple scored Justin Morneau in the bottom of the ninth inning, and Minnesota ended a six-game losing streak while stopping Oakland’s six-game winning streak.

Indians 7, Yankees 4: At Cleveland, Ben Broussard homered to begin a six-run inning against Mike Mussina (10-7) and ended the rally with an RBI single, leading Cleveland past New York.

Devil Rays 8, Rangers 5: At Arlington, Texas, Jorge Cantu drove in the tiebreaking run with an eighth-inning single, and Tampa Bay won its season-high sixth in a row by beating Texas.

Blue Jays 4, White Sox 3: At Chicago, Gregg Zaun hit a three-run double in the first, David Bush won for the second time in three starts since being recalled from the minors and Toronto held off Chicago.

Angels 8, Orioles 4: At Anaheim, Calif., Vladimir Guerrero had a pair of run-scoring doubles, and Garret Anderson and Jose Molina both hit two-run singles to lead Los Angeles past Baltimore.

National League

Reds 8, Braves 5: At Cincinnati, Adam Dunn drove in five runs with a three-run homer and a two-run double, leading Cincinnati to a win over Atlanta.

Nationals 3, Dodgers 1: At Washington, Preston Wilson and Nick Johnson homered and Washington defeated Los Angeles for its fifth win in 19 games since the All-Star break. The Dodgers lost for the sixth time in eight games.

Pirates 9, Padres 8: At Pittsburgh, rookie Brad Eldred’s third consecutive double drove in the winning run in the ninth, and Pittsburgh overcame three San Diego homers to beat the first-place Padres, who have lost 13 of 15.

Phillies 4, Cubs 3: At Philadelphia, Jimmy Rollins scored the winning run on a bases-loaded passed ball in the ninth, leading Philadelphia over Chicago.

Brewers 6, Mets 4: At New York, Lyle Overbay singled home two runs in the ninth, and Milwaukee rallied after Pedro Martinez left to beat New York. Martinez departed with a 4-3 lead after seven innings.

Cardinals 9, Marlins 6: At St. Louis, pinch-hitter So Taguchi hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the seventh, leading St. Louis past Florida.

Rockies 3, Giants 2: At San Francisco, pinch-hitter J.D. Closser singled in the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth and Colorado topped San Francisco to win consecutive road games for the first time this season.

Astros 7, Diamondbacks 0: At Phoenix, Morgan Ensberg hit his 28th homer and five pitchers combined on a six-hitter to lead Houston past Arizona for its 15th win in 17 games.
