How d’ya spell street cred? Yo, Dogg, with Benjamins
Make way for the latest celebrity duo: Lee Iacocca and Snoop Dogg. Say what?
No joke. The 80-year-old former Chrysler Corp. chairman and the rapper/actor, who made his name rapping about sex and dope, appear together in Chrysler Group’s latest ads for its employee-pricing program.
Chrysler spokeswoman Suraya DaSante said the pairing isn’t as odd as it seems. Snoop Dogg is a bona-fide Chrysler fan who called company President and CEO Dieter Zetsche last year asking for a Chrysler 300C sedan.
“They’re both total car guys,” DaSante said.
Iacocca is donating his fee to the Iacocca Foundation. Snoop Dogg also has a charity, but DaSante said she didn’t know if he was donating his fee.
The two appear as golf buddies in the ad, which begins airing Saturday. Snoop Dogg wears an argyle sweater vest, Iacocca a pastel plaid hat. At the end of the spot, Snoop Dogg says: “If the ride is more fly, then you must buy.” Iacocca responds: “That’s what I hear.”
Put sound effects here: “Yo, dog, Uh-BBBuh-BBBup-BBBuh-BBBbup-BBbuh.”
She puts the ‘I’ in icon
Jessica Simpson says playing her character in the remake of “The Dukes of Hazzard,” which opens today, was special. “To play Daisy Duke, I mean, that’s like an iconish … is that a word? … iconic figure,” she said while co-hosting “Live With Regis and Kelly.” Simpson, 25, said she had to “step into those shorts and the red bikinis and I had to do Catherine Bach proud.” To prepare, she said, “I was running sprints and doing all kinds of stuff. All I was thinking was bikini, bikini, bikini.” And, she added, “By the way, I tried on over a hundred pair.”
Here’s today’s bit of celebrity wisdom, Part I
The quote: “I don’t believe (monogamy) is realistic. But, I believe that we, as people, have the power to make it happen.” The speaker: Actress Kate Hudson, wife of Black Crowes singer Chris Robinson, speaking on the TV show, “Access Hollywood.” The occasion: Hudson was promoting her forthcoming film, “The Skeleton Key,” which co-stars Peter Sarsgaard and Gena Rowlands.
Here’s today’s bit of celebrity wisdom, Part II
(From above) Asked if she believes her husband has remained faithful, actress Kate Hudson said, “If you focus your attention on that, then you are always wondering if your husband or men are out there cheating on you. … If for some reason, that’s what he has to go do, I just don’t want to know. As long as things are good in our house, just please, don’t get caught.”
And now for something truly celebrity stupid
For Wednesday’s season premiere of “Wild On Tara,” Tara Reid visits Athens, where she parties with engaged couple Paris Hilton and Paris Latsis. Latsis invited Reid and crew to his family’s private estate for a pre-party before hitting the clubs. Reid, 29, whose screen credits include the “American Pie” movies, also faces her fear of parasailing with the help of her friend Hilton.
And, finally celebrity wisdom, Part III
(From above) After visiting her pals Paris Latsis and Paris Hilton, E! television star/actress Tara Reid said, “Meeting up with Paris and Paris was such a highlight in Greece. Dancing at the clubs was a blast. There are just certain people you know you’ll always have fun with, and Paris (Hilton) is definitely one of those people.”
