Fun in the Sun – Edgecliff SCOPE’s annual arts and crafts fair, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Edgecliff Park, Eighth and Park; also featuring live music, food and a car show.

Democratic Picnic – The ninth annual county-wide event will be Wednesday, 5-8 p.m. at the Franklin Park Pavilion at Queen and Division. Political candidates will speak. The requested donation is $5 per person or $10 per family; 535-0171.

Family identification plan – Presented by COPS Northwest, offers IDs for all children and other family members at risk. ID packets are available at COPS Northwest on the first Saturday of every month, 10 a.m.-noon. Participants will receive a computer disk copy of their photo and a fingerprint card. Spokane Indians Baseball mascot appearances – Otto, the Spokane Indians’ mascot, will make appearances at Supercuts stores Aug. 15, 4-5 p.m., 3325 W. Indian Trail Road; and Aug. 24, 5-6 p.m., 9205 N. Newport Highway; 326-1891.

Spokane Mountaineers – Leaders of a cycling trip to the Norwegian Artic will share slides from their journey, 7 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Corbin Senior Center, 827 W. Cleveland; 838-4974.

Consignment sale – The first Just Between Friends fall/winter consignment sale, 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Aug. 20 and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 21 at the Spokane Community College Lair Auditorium. The sale will focus on children’s and maternity items. Admission is free; 255-5237.

Salmon barbecue – The 49th annual event hosted by the Western Dance Association, noon-4 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Western Dance Center, 1901 N. Sullivan Road. There will be free entertainment. The meal is $8.50 for adults, $7.50 for seniors and $5.50 for children under 12; 226-0698.

Adult literacy programs – Education services provided by Rural Resources Community Action for Ferry, Pend Oreille and Stevens counties include English as a second language, adult basic education, GED preparedness, individual tutoring, family literacy and homeless/institutional education.
