Ironman organization distributes funds

Ironman North America recently contributed funds to 23 local nonprofit organizations.

The Ironman Community Fund Program supports community groups that help with the Ironman activities and puts heavy emphasis on providing sports opportunities for children. Ironman athletes help fund the program through the purchase of Ironman Community Fund spots. All recipients were involved in the Ironman Coeur d’Alene event in some capacity.

Groups that were awarded $500 are listed.

Aid station recipients

Tarragh Carr and Randy Astin for Coeur d’Alene High girls soccer; Chuck Callis for Special Olympics; Joan Zimmer for All Saints School; Cathy Compton and Kathy Salvadore for Lake City High cross country; Wende Ela and Leah McCullough for Ramsey Raiders 4-H Club; Anita Pielaet and Nancy Beamis, Coeur d’Alene Snowmobile Club; Dave Clancy and Doug Stiles for Post Falls Park and Recreation; Steve Roberge and Katie Burke for Coeur d’Alene Rotary; Sharol Hansen for Beta Sigma Phi Laureate; Jim Bumgartner for Social and Recreation Clubs; Jill Lamb for Relay for Life; Jeanine Schofield and Janet Campbell for United Way of Kootenai County; Shelley Sebok and Carol Griffiths, group not specified; and Heidi Person, Sue Schultz and Bethany Falk for Court Appointed Special Advocates.

Non-aid station recipients

Coeur d’Alene Viking Touchdown Club; Post Falls High School girls soccer; Coeur d’Alene Crush U-14 softball team; Coeur d’Alene Crush U-16 softball team; Coeur d’Alene High School swim team; Steve Omni Scholarship Fund; Specialized Needs Recreation; Girl Scout Inland Empire Council.

Aid-Station of the Year awards were also distributed.

First place, $1,000 went to Anita Pielaet and Nancy Beamis, for Coeur d’Alene Snowmobile Club; second place, $750 was awarded to Sue Schultz and Bethany Falk for CASA; and third place, $500 went to Kathy Salvadore and Cathy Compton for Coeur d’Alene High cross country.

The Cleanest Aid Station award of $300 was presented to Heidi Person and her CASA crew.

Empire Airlines recently contributed $22,500 toward the Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort.

The support began with the initial $2,500 pledge by the company, which then offered to match employee and board member donations. Empire personnel then contributed $10,000 which the company matched, and the total was distributed equally to The American Red Cross and the Salvation Army.
