Spokane bags Red Deer for third consecutive win
RED DEER, Alberta – Five different players scored goals and Derek Ryan has two assists Tuesday to lead the Spokane Chiefs to their third consecutive Western Hockey League victory, 5-4 over the Red Deer Rebels.
The Chiefs jumped to a 2-0 lead after one period. Chad Klassen scored with an assist from Ryan 55 seconds into the game to give Spokane (14-13-1-0) a 1-0 lead. Jeff Lynch made it 2-0 – also with an assist from Ryan – on Spokane’s only power-play opportunity of the game at 13:16.
Red Deer (8-20-1-2) sandwiched goals from Luke Egener and Roman Wick around a marker by David Linsley of Spokane and the Chiefs held a 3-2 lead after two periods.
Michael Grabner and Johannes Salmonsson each scored unassisted goals in the third period to wrap up Spokane’s scoring. Grabner’s goal tied him for the team lead with 10.
