“King Kong”

Peter Jackson, fresh off winning his Oscar for “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, takes on an even bigger challenge – a huge, lovesick ape called “King Kong” – in his follow-up film, which opens across the nation on Wednesday. A remake of the 1933 original, the film stars Naomi Watts, Adrien Brody and Jack Black as the movie director who puts the whole plot in process.

It opens when?

If you’re looking for the film “Brokeback Mountain,” the Jake Gyllenhaal/Heath Ledger film based on an E. Annie Proulx story about a pair of gay cowboys, it’s been relegated to a “limited” opening. This means it’ll screen in Spokane depending on print availability or whether bookers think it will draw an audience here – or both. Word is maybe January. Or even later.

Two for the snow

Don’t forget that the annual Warren Miller snow film, this year’s titled “Warren Miller’s Higher Ground,” plays at

6 and 9 p.m. Dec. 17 at the Opera House. For tickets, call 325-SEAT.
