Lengthy home slate continues for Cougs
PULLMAN – School is out for the holidays and it’s probable that not many people will be on hand when Washington State hosts Portland at 2 p.m. today in Beasley Coliseum.
But in a sense, this is exactly what the Cougars were hoping for.
In playing an unusual number of road games in years past, WSU has a 2005-06 non-conference schedule chock-full of home dates, and today is no exception.
WSU has had an entire week to rest with no games scheduled during finals week, and after this afternoon it will have just one non-conference game left on the schedule, Thursday’s date with Utah in Seattle.
The 5-2 Cougars host the 4-5 Pilots a year after traveling to Portland and sneaking away with a 55-54 win.
This year WSU expects a similar challenge with Portland coming off of a 16-point win over another Pac-10 foe, Oregon State.
The Pilots are led by two-time All-WCC guard Pooh Jeter, who averages a team-best 16.7 points.
