Eastern Washington suffers 3rd straight loss

Chassidy Jones had 21 points and 11 rebounds as Northwestern State became the 24th Division I school to earn its 300th home victory Tuesday with a 72-61 victory over Eastern Washington in Natchitoches, La.

LaTonya Perry added 15 points and Shenise Milliner pulled down 15 rebounds for Northwestern State (7-3), which went on a 21-2 run late in the first half to take an 11-point halftime lead.

Felice Moore (Central Valley HS) had 14 points and six rebounds for the Eagles (4-6), who shot 7 of 23 (30 percent) from 3-point range and dropped their third straight game.

Washington 62, California 55: At Seattle, Cameo Hicks scored nine of her 16 points in the final 6:08 and Washington continued its mastery over California in a Pac-10 opener.

The Huskies (8-2, 1-0) beat the Golden Bears (8-3, 0-1) for the 11th straight time, dating back to the 2000-2001 season, despite 21 points from Alexis Gray-Lawson and 20 by Devanei Hampton, both Cal freshmen.

Kristen O’Neill scored 11 points off the bench and Andrea Plouffe added 10 points and 10 rebounds for Washington.

Montana 58, Idaho 50: At Missoula, Katie Edwards scored 12 points and Mandy Morales scored all 10 of her points in the first half in Montana’s non-conference victory over Idaho, the fifth consecutive win for the Lady Griz.

Idaho (3-6) got within 45-44 on a 3-pointer by Leilani Mitchell with 9 minutes, 15 seconds remaining, but Montana (8-2) used a 10-0 run, including six free throws, to take a 55-44 lead with 4:01 to play. Idaho got no closer than eight points the rest of the way.

Emily Faurholt led Idaho with 22 points and nine rebounds while Mitchell added 16 points, nine assists and six rebounds.

Idaho led once in the game, 4-3, after two free throws by Faurholt just more than a minute into the game.

Montana used an 11-0 run, capped with a layup by Sara Gale, to take a 14-4 lead with 13:53 left in the half.

Idaho answered with a 12-3 run to pull within 17-16 on a 3-pointer by MacKenzie Flynn with 6:52 left in the half, but Montana built a 34-22 lead after a 3-pointer by Morales with 28 seconds left in the half.
