Associated Press

Lodrick Stewart and Nick Young each scored 18 points to lead Southern California to a 74-59 non-conference victory over No. 17 North Carolina on Wednesday night.

It was the eighth straight win for the Trojans (8-2) and their first over a ranked opponent since March 2004.

Stewart was 7 of 12 from the field, including 4 of 5 from 3-point range. His 3-pointer with 2:40 to play gave the Trojans a 68-57 lead.

Gabe Pruitt had 16 points and Ryan Francis added 12 points and seven assists for USC, whose last loss was to Oral Roberts on Nov. 23.

David Noel led North Carolina (6-2) with 19 points and freshman Tyler Hansbrough had 16. North Carolina’s other loss was to Illinois on Nov. 29 in a rematch of the Tar Heels’ victory in last season’s national championship game.

(12) UCLA 74, Wagner 72: At Los Angeles, Luc Richard Mbah a Moute scored from underneath with 14 seconds remaining to lift the Bruins (9-1) to a non-conference win over the Seahawks (6-2).

Mbah a Moute made his only field goal of the second half after Jordan Farmar found him alone under the basket.

Wagner was unable to get a shot off after that, thanks to UCLA’s hard-nosed defense. Mark Porter’s wild 3-pointer from about 30 feet came after the final buzzer.

The Bruins are off to their best start in eight years.

Arizona 86, Western Kentucky 81 (OT): At Tucson, Ariz., Hassan Adams scored 23 points, including Arizona’s first and last in overtime, and the host Wildcats (7-3) beat the Hilltoppers (6-4) to win the Fiesta Bowl Classic.

Anthony Winchester of Western Kentucky forced the overtime when he tied the game at 75 with a baseline jumper with 15 seconds left in regulation. Winchester, who had 22 points and eight rebounds, made a 3-pointer to get the Hilltoppers within 81-78 with 1:48 remaining in OT, but Adams, who had seven rebounds, made a reverse layup 41 seconds later for a five-point lead.

Northwestern St. 72, Oregon St. 61: At Honolulu, Kerwin Forges scored 14 points to lead the Demons (7-2) past the Beavers (4-4) to open the Rainbow Classic.

Forges came off the bench to shoot 5 for 5 from the field, including 2 for 2 from 3-point range. OSU trailed just 54-51 with 9:15 remaining, but Northwestern State responded with a 12-4 run.

Stanford 58, Princeton 34: At Oakland, Calif., Chris Hernandez and Dan Grunfeld scored 11 points each and Matt Haryasz added 10 as the Cardinal (4-4) defeated the Tigers (2-7) in the Pete Newell Challenge.

DePaul 68, California 65: Also at the Pete Newell Challenge in Oakland, Draelon Burns scored four points in the final 2:35, and the Blue Demons (6-4) hung on when Leon Powe of the Bears (6-3) missed two free throws with 2.8 seconds left in a two-point game.

Arizona St. 64, Boise St. 49: At the ASU Hoops Classic in Tempe, Ariz., Jeff Pendergraph scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds to help the Sun Devils (5-3) beat the Broncos (5-4) and snap a three-game losing streak.
