San Diego continues to be the surprise team in the WCC. The Toreros raised their record to 9-3 with wins over Loyola-Chicago and New Mexico last week and produced the conference’s player of the week in senior forward Nick Lewis, who scored 21 points against Loyola-Chicago and 22 against New Mexico to raise his season scoring average to 19.5. USD’s only loss in its last nine games was to Texas-Arlington in overtime. … When Gonzaga’s Adam Morrison was held to 18 points in last Thursday’s 60-57 road win over Saint Louis, it marked the first time in seven games that the Zags’ preseason All-American was limited to fewer than 20 points. … Santa Clara has announced that its Jan. 9 home game against Gonzaga is sold out. The contest will serve as the WCC’s debut on ESPN’s Big Monday. The game, which tips off at 9 p.m., will be televised on ESPN2.
