Renovations at the Buttonhook Inn on Lake Pend Oreille in Bayview have resulted in an addition to the name of the place: Buttonhook Inn & Pub. A fireplace and lounge chairs have been added for customer comfort in the pub.

Molly Bier came from Priest Lake to Bayview to manage the restaurant. The menu changes weekly with salads, sandwiches, soup-of-the-day, a Saturday night chef’s selection, and a Sunday brunch with frittatas, waffles, fresh fruit and gourmet toast.

Bier also runs the nearby Pottery Shed, an art studio and gift shop open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

Buttonhook is owned by Waterford Marinas, which owns three marinas, two additional restaurants, a motel, RV sites, condos and mobile home park in Bayview.

Hours at the Buttonhook Inn & Pub are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for Sunday brunch. Phone 683-2424.

H&R Block expanding to Neider

A first tenant coming to the 16,800-square-foot mini-mall across Neider Avenue from Costco in Coeur d’Alene will be H&R Block. The tax preparation company plans to occupy 1,400 square feet in the complex in early January.

Paula Anderson will coordinate an office of about 10 employees. She is transferring from the existing office on Fourth Street.

Hours will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and 9 to 5 Saturdays. H&R Block began business in 1955 and has about 10,000 offices. Its headquarters is in Kansas City.

R&R Auto Shop on Seltice Way

The former senior mechanic at the now-closed Herman’s Automotive in Coeur d’Alene, Jim Meyers, and his son Fred have opened R&R Shop at 5540 E. Seltice Way (across from the National Guard Armory).

The auto repair shop gets its name from the shop Jim’s father and his uncle had in Detroit in the 1960s. The Meyers explored the West after Ford Co. layoffs in 1972. They drove to Seattle, decided they didn’t want more city life, and retreated east to Coeur d’Alene.

They have more than 40 years of experience in auto mechanics and new diagnostic equipment. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays by appointment. Phone 777-2823.
