A bittersweet goodbye

Well, there’s good news and bad news. Here’s both at once, in a nearly two-minute-long answering machine message from Larry and Karla Graves, now-former owners of Paprika, an upscale South Hill restaurant:

“A message to our Paprika patrons: After all of fourteen years of owning and operating a restaurant in Spokane, we have decided to retire.

“We thank all of our faithful patrons that have supported us over the years. We’ve had the privilege of meeting many wonderful people and have made many friends. We’ve had a great time and we thank you.

“A new restaurant will be in our location (1228 S. Grand Blvd.), named Just Jerry’s. The new owners are Jerry (Schrader) and Robin (Riemcke) who operated the Cannon Street Grill. They should open after the first of the year. …

“Again, thank you for supporting our restaurant. Larry and Karla.”

At least we can hope for another smash hit from the former owners of Cannon Street Grill, which Schrader said will open around the end of January.

The five-course meal features duck prosciutto, beef tenderloin, lobster tail and other drool-inducing palatables.

Cost is $100 per person. A few seats were available as of press time; to reserve a spot, call 838-8338.
