String quartet plays at UI Auditorium

The St. Lawrence String Quartet comes to the University of Idaho Auditorium for a concert tonight.

Formed in Toronto in 1989, the group won the 1992 Banff International String Quartet Competition as well as the Young Concert Artists Auditions in New York. It has toured across North and South America, Asia and Europe and is quartet in residence at Stanford University.

The quartet performs both traditional and modern works. Tonight’s program includes Mozart’s String Quartet K. 575, R. Murray Schafer’s String Quartet #3 and the Beethoven String Quartet Op. 127.

The concert begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $18 to $8, through TicketsWest outlets (325-SEAT, 800-325-SEAT, www.ticketswest.com).

Washington Idaho Symphony

The Washington Idaho Symphony will give concerts on Saturday in Pullman and on Sunday in Lewiston.

The program includes Brahms’ “Academic Festival Overture,” Sebelius’ Symphony No. 1, Revueltas’ “Sensemaya” and Moncayo’s “Huapango.”

Saturday’s concert begins at 8 p.m. in Pullman’s Gladish Auditorium. Sunday’s concert begins at 3 p.m. in the Lewiston High School Auditorium.
