Weise, Wynecoop stand out during 13-fight amateur boxing card

The Spokesman-Review

Two members of the Spokane Eagles Boxing Club were named outstanding boxers at a 13-bout amateur card Saturday at the Eagles Lodge in Spokane.

Chris Weise, a 125-pound 13-year-old, won his bout with Lewiston’s Mike Grow and earned one of the Outstanding Boxer trophies.

Teammate Luke Wynecoop defeated Spokane’s Brandon Anderson for the second time in his career, this time in a 132-pound match in the 16-17-year-old age group, to earn the second overall trophy.

Wynecoop, a national Native American champion, schooled Anderson with an array of jabs and straight right-hand punches that scored repeatedly in the three-round bout.

Also winning in impressive fashion was Spokane’s Chynna Nibler, a former karate standout who only recently took up boxing and joined the Spokane Eagles squad. Nibler used a powerful right cross to force Eastmont’s Alexyss Ruelas into retiring from the 125-pound bout at the end of the first round.

The Triple A Boxing Club’s Cierra Tenderholt, a 12-year-old Spokane Valley 125-pounder and the younger sister of Spokane amateur Keith Tenderholt, scored an impressive victory, forcing Leanna LaMere, from the Electric City Boxing Club in Great Falls, Mont., into an early retirement from the bout.

Spokane Eagles boxers Thomas Sanders (155 pounds) and Victor Vlasenko (170) also won bouts.
