Around the Pac-10

The Spokesman-Review

Stanford head coach Trent Johnson is trying to rally his team’s spirits after losing top scorer Dan Grunfeld to an ACL tear in his right knee. The Pac-10’s No. 2 scorer this season at 17.9 a game suffered the gruesome injury against California on Saturday and it punctured the morale of some teammates, though the Cardinal still managed to win the game. Grunfeld has visited practice since the injury, and Johnson is hoping that his replacement, sophomore Fred Washington, will be part of an overall improvement in team defense to help offset the loss of Grunfeld’s scoring. … Oregon 7-footer Ian Crosswhite is gone for good after originally being suspended indefinitely a week ago for a violation of athletic department rules. While Crosswhite was expected to be a primary contributor for the Ducks this season, they may have played better without him last week. Head coach Ernie Kent went to a smaller, quicker lineup and his team took Washington to overtime then defeated Washington State to snap a six-game losing streak. … Former UCLA coach John Wooden will pay a visit to Arizona coach Lute Olson and attend a Wildcats practice next week.
