Athletes: Hit the books
I attended some of the North Idaho state-qualifying girls basketball tournaments last week. On Saturday, I attended the women’s game between Gonzaga and Loyola Marymount.
The difference between North Idaho high school basketball and Division I college basketball is profound. Very few high school players from North Idaho will ever have the size or athleticism necessary to play Division I college basketball.
As parents, it is easy to envision our children playing intercollegiate athletics. In reality, it is far easier to get an academic scholarship than an athletic scholarship. Do not put too much faith in the bouncing ball as a means of attending college.
