Ewer not going to believe the value of this Roseville vase

This is a 1942 Roseville
Glenn Erardi Special to The Spokesman-Review

Dear Collector: Please tell me the value of this vase marked “Roseville, USA?”

References list this as a ewer (close cousin to a pitcher) in Roseville’s Foxglove pattern. Introduced in 1942, your 10-inch-high matte finish piece has a potential value of almost $400.

Dear Collector: We have a Gottlieb “Bronco” pinball game that was a gift to my wife, and she thinks it’s 50 or 60 years old.

Research shows this machine was made in 1977.

Dear Collector: How much is this 1887 Canadian penny worth?

Struck at the Royal Mint in London (Canada would not have a mint of its own until 1908), your large size copper coin bears the likeness of Queen Victoria. Value for a specimen in fine condition is about $3.

Dear Collector: I’ve had this Shirley Temple doll since childhood, can you tell me if it’s valuable?

If you check on page 195 of “Collector’s Guide to Ideal Dolls” (Collector Books, 2005, $24.95) you’ll see your 1958 Shirley dressed in red pajamas. The author, Judith Izen, puts a mint in box value of $75-$100 on this doll which originally sold for $1.50.

Dear Collector: Is my cast iron bank in the shape of an old time radio worth anything?

Your still bank (so called because it has no moving parts) was made by Hubley in the late 1920s, and is now worth $250.

Dear Collector: How old is this silver spoon, and who made it?

Displaying the initials of Trenton, New Jersey’s Electrolytic Art Metal Company (EAMCO), your silverware dates from the First World War.

Dear Collector: I found these really strange looking salt and peppers at a garage sale. The person who sold them to me said they came from Egypt. Is this true?

Miniature reproductions of Egyptian canopic jars, which held a mummy’s internal organs, these four containers came from exotic Wapheton, North Dakota. Produced in the 1950s by Rosemeade, their current value is in excess of $500.

Dear Collector: My mother bought a “Girl From Uncle” comic book when she was a teenager, and still has it. I am going to send it to Stephanie Powers, the star of the television series, for her autograph, then have it framed for my mom’s birthday.

Running for only five numbers in 1967, this title is valued at $100 for the premier copy and $80 for each subsequent issue; Miss Powers’ signature would add 10 to 20 percent. Of course, these prices are for comics in mint condition.

Dear Collector: How much are these Elvis earrings worth?

I found two similar mid-1950s pairs listed in a price guide for $100 each. The value quoted was for sets still on their original cards.

Dear Collector: While digging a vegetable garden behind our house I unearthed seven of these Kennel Club bottles, plus many broken ones. Please give me a date and value?

It appears as if a previous occupant liked his whiskey, because that’s what your late 19th or early 20th century amber bottles contained. Value on the intact ones is $45-$60 apiece.
