Hunter dies after being shot

Associated Press

MOSES LAKE – An East Wenatchee bird hunter died after his hunting partner shot him as they hunted in a remote area west of here, the dead man’s sister said.

Mark L. Foland, 51, died Wednesday after he was shot in the upper right leg.

His hunting partner, a 38-year-old from the Wenatchee area, discharged his 12-gauge shotgun while packing decoys. He was attempting to activate the safety when the gun fired, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The 38-year-old called for help on his cell phone and tried to stop the bleeding. But Foland’s sister, Cathi Foland, said the cell phone died, forcing the man to leave to seek help for his injured friend.
