Her version of deceit is his simply telling her how it is

WE’VE ALREADY TOLD you part of author Terry McMillan‘s sad story. How she’s filed for divorce from the man who inspired the 1996 novel “How Stella Got Her Groove Back,” which chronicled the romantic adventures of a 40-something woman who falls for a guy half her age.

Why the divorce? Turns out that Jonathan Plummer, 30, is gay.

But, as always, there’s more to the story. Plummer’s take on the whole flap, for example.

Plummer maintains that McMillan, 53, treated him with “homophobic” scorn bordering on harassment since he came out to her as gay just before Christmas.

Furthermore, McMillan filed for divorce in January, but news of the split didn’t surface until this week, when it was first reported in a San Francisco Chronicle gossip column. Earlier this month, a judge ordered McMillan to pay Plummer $2,000 a month in spousal support and $25,000 in attorney’s fees until the case comes back to court in October.

But McMillan has the final word. “It was devastating to discover that a relationship I had publicized to the world as life-affirming and built on mutual love was actually based on deceit,” she said. “I was humiliated.”

No brain problem gonna stop the rockin’

His former life as a hard-core rocker may be catching up with him, but Neil Young is motoring on. Three months ago, Young was treated for a brain aneurysm. On Saturday, he plans to take the stage to perform in Canada’s Live 8 concert, which will be held just north of Toronto. Other scheduled performers include Bryan Adams and, among others, other Canadian artists such as Gordon Lightfoot and The Tragically Hip.

But the court sure rocks Lauper’s world

Cyndi Lauper wanted the rent on her Manhattan apartment to be cut nearly in half. The New York state Court of Appeals says no. On Thursday, the court, by a 5-2 margin, upheld a lower court ruling that set Lauper’s rent at nearly $1,000 a month. The singer, 52, and husband, actor David Thornton, had sued the owners of their luxury apartment building, claiming they were cheated out of thousands of dollars in a scheme to end rent stabilization for their residence.

Big Apple plays host to the Big Gorilla

Peter Jackson‘s update of “King Kong” is set to premiere in early December – in New York, of course – just before the film’s Dec. 14 general release. Jackson’s film stars Naomi Watts, Adrien Brody and Jack Black in roles played in the 1933 version by Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong and Bruce Cabot.

Will the baby come with its own little broom?

Melissa Joan Hart (“Sabrina the Teenage Witch” is expecting her first child in January. Hart, 29, is married to Mark Wilkerson, 28, of the rock trio Course of Nature.

Ever hear about global warm… Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Hate talk of the “environment”? You’re not alone. In a recent luncheon ceremony honoring CNN founder Ted Turner for his work as an environmentalist, pushing for new energy sources, former president Bill Clinton said most Americans think of energy conservation “the way, when I was a kid, we thought of gulping castor oil.”

This is here because we think it’s that important

After months of speculation, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have tied the knot – and she’s pregnant.
