Man disappears while boating

From staff reports

SANDPOINT – Bonner County authorities are looking for a man who disappeared after going boating alone on Lake Pend Oreille.

Bruce Hamilton, 53, was reported missing at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday by family members who said he was last seen between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. in the Sunrise Bay area of Lake Pend Oreille in a blue canoe-like vessel with a small outboard motor, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Marine deputies searched for the vessel for several hours with no luck and were later notified that a vessel matching the description was found near Sunnyside Peninsula on the other side of the lake. The reported vessel was not found.

Dive teams returned on Thursday to the area, but found nothing, according to the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office.

Hamilton was described as 5-foot 5-inches and 160 pounds. He was wearing a black ball cap, black sweatshirt, shorts and tennis shoes. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Hamilton is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 265-5525.
