Several local athletes on all-state teams
Mt. Spokane goalkeeper Jeff Srock is the lone Greater Spokane League first-team selection among this year’s Washington spring all-state teams as voted on by a statewide panel of sportswriters.
Srock was one of four area athletes to be recognized for boys soccer this year. He and Shadle Park forward Andy Largent, a second-team choice, are members of the 4A team.
High-scoring Pullman forward Nick de Graffenreid is on the 2A first team and Medical Lake defender Brad Groce is second team.
Pullman’s state championship team was well represented in baseball.
First baseman Justin Cooper and shortstop Kyle Hinrichs are 2A first-team selections, along with Chewelah pitcher A.J. Proszek. Pullman’s Lance Lincoln was voted coach of the year.
Two other Greyhounds, pitcher Kale Stephenson and outfielder Sam Tennant, received honorable mention.
Newport pitcher Nick Collison was a 1A selection for the state runner-up Grizzlies. Grizzlies Josh Teade and Myles Melendez are on the second team. Newport catcher Chance Hargrove, Colfax first baseman Josh Morse and Freeman infielder Nate Szymanowski were given honorable mention.
East Valley’s Jye Lanphere is a honorable mention pick in 3A.
In softball, Colville pitcher Melissa Rice and Medical Lake outfielder Charlotte Psick are 2A first-team selections. Kettle Falls infielder Mandee Edwards is 1A first team and Mead pitcher Kim Watson is a 4A second-team choice.
Kettle Falls pitcher Kassy Schemitzki and Colfax infielder Michelle Gylling are on the 1A second team.
Honorable mention choices are Shadle freshman pitcher Samantha Skillingstad for 4A; North Central shortstop Jami Schibel in 3A; Colville first baseman Jordan Emmil and outfielder Whitney Loan in 2A; and Colfax pitcher Lynnea VanTrease in 1A.
