Church observes 100 years

First Baptist Church of Newport, Wash., 217 S. Spokane St., is celebrating 100 years of worship Sunday.

The church will hold special services at 8:25 and 11 a.m. The services will include memories of former pastors and special music.

There will be fellowship coffee served between services from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m.

The day of festivities will continue at 2 p.m. with a picnic at Bear Paw Camp, 581 Bear Paw Drive, Newport. The picnic will include baptisms at 2:30 p.m.

50th anniversary

St. Henry’s Catholic Church, 590 W. Grand Coulee, Grand Coulee, is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its parish Sunday during 10 a.m. mass.

The celebration will include a picnic at Spring Canyon National Park Service Campground, 1008 Crest Drive, Coulee Dam, at 1:30 p.m.

Guitar concert

Ancient Traditions Community Church, 1928 E. Rich Ave., is hosting “Tuning the Air: 360 Degrees of Music” today at 7 p.m.

Ten acoustic guitarists from the Seattle Guitar Craft Circle will perform around the audience. The suggested donation to attend is $10.

Choir concert

Messiah Lutheran Church, 4202 N. Belt St., is presenting Promise, a touring group from California Baptist University, Riverside, Calif., Sunday at 7 p.m.

The concert is free, although a free-will offering will be taken.

Church carnivals

• First Baptist Church of Deer Park, 1200 E. Crawford, Deer Park, is hosting a block party today in celebration of the end of the church’s vacation Bible school, “Ramblin’ Road Trip: Which Way Do I Go?”

The festivities begin at 3 p.m. with a parade from Deer Park Middle School to the church grounds. Parade entries will include dog carts, bicycles, classic cars and military Humvees.

After the parade, the church is offering a free hamburger barbecue that will include a volleyball tournament, McGruff the Crime Dog, a SCOPE family identification booth, clowns and games. An outdoor concert is planned at 6 p.m.

• Cornerstone Christian Academy is hosting its third annual summer Carnival today from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Heritage Congregational Church, 1801 E. 29th Ave.

The event will include games, prizes, an inflatable castle and a giant slide. Game tickets are five for $1.

Vacation Bible school

• Chattaroy Community Church, 3711 E. Chattaroy Road, Chattaroy, is presenting “Kingdom of the Son: A Prayer Safari,” a vacation Bible school for children 4 years old through the sixth grade.

Classes begin Monday, from 9 a.m. to noon, and run through Friday. A special program for parents will be Thursday at 7 p.m.

• Mission Community Presbyterian Church, 2103 E. Mission Ave., is hosting vacation Bible school from Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon.

This year’s theme, “The Solar Express: Empowered by the Son,” will include Bible lessons, crafts, snacks and games.

• Messiah Lutheran Church, 4202 N. Belt St., in conjunction with North Hill Christian Church, is presenting vacation Bible school from Sunday through Thursday from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

This year’s theme, “Serengeti Trek,” will include a light supper at 5:30 p.m., games, crafts and Bible stories. Children ages 3 through the sixth grade are invited to attend.
