Indians’ Hafner a little shaky after beaning

Associated Press

NOTES

Travis Hafner’s head was still spinning following his weekend beaning by Chicago’s Mark Buehrle.

Hafner didn’t start Monday night’s game against Kansas City, his second straight game out of the starting lineup. Cleveland’s best offensive threat was available to pinch hit.

“I woke up, felt fine, and thought I could play. But once I started exercising I still had some dizziness and they want to make sure the dizziness goes away,” he said, referring to team medical personnel.

In the first inning Saturday, Hafner was unable to get away from an inside pitch from Buehrle and was struck flush on the mouth.

Indians get Dubois

Looking for a power-hitting right-handed hitter, the Cleveland Indians acquired outfielder Jason Dubois from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for outfielder Jody Gerut.

The Indians have been in the market for a right-handed slugger, and Dubois (pronounced du-Boyce) could help. The 6-foot-5, 220-pounder hit 31 homers last season at Triple-A Iowa.

“Cardinals outfielder Reggie Sanders might miss a month or more because of a broken bone in his right leg.

Sanders was placed on the disabled list Monday, three days after he collided with center fielder Jim Edmonds as they chased a flyball.

“The Atlanta Braves activated third baseman Chipper Jones from the 15-day disabled list Monday, and the five-time All-Star was in the lineup for their game against the San Francisco Giants.

Jones is batting .282 with seven homers and 26 RBIs, has missed 43 games this season.

“ Indians reliever Rafael Betancourt was reinstated to the active roster on Monday after serving his 10-day suspension for violating baseball’s drug policy.

“The Boston Red Sox placed second baseman Mark Bellhorn on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left thumb on Monday and recalled infielder Kevin Youkilis from Triple-A Pawtucket.
