American league

Rangers 2, Yankees 1: Hank Blalock hit a two-run homer off Wayne Franklin in the eighth inning, rallying Texas past New York in Arlington, Texas. Blalock’s two-out homer off Franklin (0-1) skimmed over the top of the right-center field fence and dropped into the Rangers bullpen. The Yankees lost for only the third time in 14 games and dropped a half-game behind Boston in the A.L. East, one day after taking sole possession of first place for the first time since an opening-day win over Boston.

Tigers 7, White Sox 1: Omar Infante hit a three-run homer to back Jeremy Bonderman as visiting Detroit beat the White Sox to stop Chicago’s five-game winning streak.

Twins 4, Orioles 3: Jacque Jones beat out an infield single to drive in the winning run with a ninth-inning single and lift Minnesota past visiting Baltimore. B.J. Ryan blew his fifth save in 26 chances, three of those against the Twins.

Royals 4, Indians 0: Zack Greinke pitched seven shutout innings for his second win since the All-Star break and Emil Brown homered off unlucky Cleveland starter Kevin Millwood, sending Kansas City to a win in Cleveland.

Red Sox 5, Devil Rays 2: Curt Schilling earned his first save since 1992, and Manny Ramirez hit his 25th homer as Boston snapped a three-game losing streak by beating visiting Tampa Bay.

Athletics 3, Angels 1: Rich Harden came within one out of becoming the first Oakland pitcher in more than four years to record consecutive shutouts, combining with Huston Street on a four-hitter as Oakland won in Anaheim, Calif.
