Splurges worth springing for

CLEAN Fresh Laundry is a new scent designed to give you that fresh-from-the- dryer smell.

If you’re anything like me, you set aside a little money each spring for a few fun new treats.

Oh, who am I kidding? “Set aside a little money” is a bit of an understatement. But “raid the grocery budget to buy lip gloss and perfume” sounds slightly irresponsible.

Anyway, if you’re looking to treat yourself to something totally unnecessary, here are a few ideas:

• Jiffy Tan, which is part of BeneFit Cosmetics’ Wonderbod collection, subscribes to the theory that a tan makes you look thinner. I also subscribe to that theory, so I had to try it out. Good news: It goes on easily and evenly, has just a bit of shimmer, and comes off with soap and water. About $24 at www.benefitcosmetics.com or www.sephora.com.

• The company that makes CLEAN perfume has expanded its offerings with CLEAN Fresh Laundry. Instead of the just-out-of-the-shower scent of the original fragrance, this one has a just-out-of-the-dryer motif. Nice. It’s $76 for a 2.14-oz bottle of eau de parfum at www.cleanperfume.com. Lotion, linen spray and a candle are also available in the laundry scent.

• If you’re a mother-to-be in search of something hip to wear for the next few months (or looking to splurge on a friend who is), check out the new maternity collection from Fortune Tee. The T-shirts feature clever fortune-cookie-style phrases like “Sleepness nights are in my near future” or “An epidural is in my near future.” Shirts are about $40 at www.fortunetee.com, or use the site’s store locator to find a bricks-and-mortar location.
