Armed with a federal grant, the Market Street Market in Hillyard hopes to draw crowds – and jobs – to the struggling neighborhood.
The seasonal public market, now in its third full year of business, will use the $250,000 grant to make upgrades to its buildings so it can stay open year ‘round.
Its operator hopes to increase the number of vendors there from about a dozen to more than 60, with the expectation that success could prompt some of those people to establish permanent businesses in Hillyard.
“I’m a big believer in what this market will do for Spokane and Hillyard,” says one Spokane City Council member.
