GU’s Morrison picked for tryout

Gonzaga University junior forward Adam Morrison is among 21 players who have accepted invitations to the USA men’s basketball U-21 national team trials in Dallas, Texas, July 21-23.

The trials will be used to selected the final 12-member team that will look to defend the USA’s gold medal at the 2005 FIBA World Championship in Mar de Plata, Argentina, Aug. 5-14. Athlete selections were made by the USA basketball men’s collegiate committee, chaired by Syracuse University head coach Jim Boeheim. The U-21 team is comprised of players born on or after Jan., 1, 1984.

Morrison was a first-team West Coast Conference selection and an Associated Press honorable mention All-America pick in 2005. A graduate of Spokane’s Mead High, he averaged a team-leading 19.0 points per game, 5.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists as the Bulldogs advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the seventh straight season. He was also named MVP of the 2005 WCC Tournament won by the Bulldogs.
