White Sox 12, Cubs 2: At Chicago, Freddy Garcia (7-3) allowed three hits in seven innings and the White Sox beat the visiting Cubs for their eighth straight win. Frank Thomas hit a solo homer run in the first inning and tied Luke Appling’s White Sox record for career runs scored with 1,319.

Mets 6, Yankees 4: At New York, Pedro Martinez (8-2) dominated his old nemesis for eight innings, Cliff Floyd and Carlos Beltran homered and the visiting Mets hit four sacrifice flies in a victory over the Yankees. The Mets set an N.L. record by hitting three sacrifice flies in the second, with the help of two errors.

Red Sox 8, Phillies 0: At Philadelphia, Tim Wakefield (6-6) pitched eight sharp innings, and Doug Mirabelli and Manny Ramirez hit three-run homers, leading Boston over the Phillies.

Reds 5, Indians 4: At Cleveland, Felipe Lopez doubled home the go-ahead run with two outs in the ninth and Ken Griffey Jr., hit two homers as Cincinnati edged the Indians.

Nationals 3, Blue Jays 0: At Washington, Esteban Loaiza (3-5) hit a two-run double and pitched six shutout innings, to lead the Nationals past Toronto.

Astros 5, Rangers 2: At Houston, Roy Oswalt (9-7) pitched 7 1/3 strong innings, Jason Lane hit a two-run homer and the Astros handed Texas its fifth straight loss.

Braves 7, Orioles 5: At Atlanta, Marcus Giles and Andruw Jones hit first-inning home runs as the Braves took an early six-run lead and beat Baltimore.

Marlins 7, Devil Rays 4: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Juan Pierre tripled with the bases loaded in a four-run eighth that carried Florida to a victory over Tampa Bay.

Brewers 3, Twins 1: At Milwaukee, Chris Capuano pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings and Damian Miller hit a solo home run as the Brewers beat Minnesota.

Angels 7, Dodgers 0: At Anaheim, Calif., John Lackey (6-2) combined with two relievers on a five-hitter, Garret Anderson and Dallas McPherson homered, and the Angels beat Los Angeles.

Diamondbacks 2, Tigers 1: At Phoenix, Tony Clark had an RBI single, Shawn Green hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly and Arizona rallied for a victory over Detroit.

Athletics 4, Giants 3: At Oakland, Calif., Bobby Kielty hit a two-run homer, Bobby Crosby also connected and Joe Blanton (4-6) won his third straight start in Oakland’s win over San Francisco.

Rockies 12, Royals 4: At Denver, Preston Wilson drove in three runs and Dustan Mohr ended a 2-for-26 slump with a two-run homer, helping Colorado top Kansas City.

Cardinals 8, Pirates 1: At St. Louis, Jeff Suppan (7-6) took a two-hitter into the ninth and the Cardinals backed him with five home runs, two each by Jim Edmonds and So Taguchi, in a victory over Pittsburgh.
