‘The Passion Recut’

Seeking a wider audience for his R-rated depiction of the final 12 hours of the life of Jesus Christ, director Mel Gibson trimmed six minutes from his 2004 film “The Passion of the Christ.” His intent was to “recut the film to cater to those people that perhaps might not have seen it because of its intensity or brutality.” But the Motion Picture Academy of American declined a PG-13 rating, so Gibson has released it unrated. The result, titled “The Passion Recut,” opens today exclusively at the AMC River Park Square Cinemas. AMC managers say they will treat “The Passion Recut” as they did the R-rated original.
