Associated Press

American League

Royals 8, Indians 1: At Cleveland, former Spokane Indian Ken Harvey hit his first career grand slam and Eli Marrero homered twice to back rookie Denny Bautista (2-1) as Kansas City snapped a nine-game losing streak with a win over the Indians.

Twins 4, Angels 2: At Minneapolis, Brad Radke (2-3) earned the win with 7 1/3 strong innings and Justin Morneau had a homer and a triple as Minnesota beat Los Angeles for its fifth straight victory.

Red Sox 9, Rangers 2: At Arlington, Texas, Bronson Arroyo (3-0) won again and Johnny Damon and Trot Nixon hit consecutive homers in the fifth inning as Boston snapped a three-game skid with a win over Texas.

White Sox 4, Tigers 3: At Chicago, Tadahito Iguchi’s RBI single capped a three-run seventh inning as the White Sox rallied to end Detroit’s five-game winning streak.

Yankees 4, Blue Jays 3: At New York, Taiwan’s Chien-Ming Wang thrived in his major league debut and Tony Womack hit a game-winning single in the ninth to help the Yankees beat Toronto. Wang held the Blue Jays to six singles in seven innings, but didn’t get the win.

Orioles 7, Devil Rays 5: At Baltimore, Brian Roberts hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the eighth inning and the Orioles beat Tampa Bay for their seventh straight victory. Miguel Tejada homered for the third consecutive game and had three RBIs for Baltimore.

National League

Braves 3, Cardinals 2: At Atlanta, Raul Mondesi homered leading off the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Braves a win over St. Louis. New closer Dan Kolb (1-2) earned his first win for Atlanta by working a perfect ninth.

Brewers 6, Reds 5: At Milwaukee, Damiam Miller singled home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Brewers overcame a 5-1 deficit to beat Cincinnati.

Giants 7, Pirates 6: At Pittsburgh, Deivi Cruz hit a two-run homer in the first and Pirates center fielder Jason Bay’s error helped key a three-run sixth inning, carrying San Francisco past Pittsburgh.

Astros 7, Cubs 5: At Houston, Jeff Bagwell had three hits to help the Houston beat Chicago and end its longest losing streak (six) in nearly three years. Brandon Backe (2-1) pitched seven innings to earn the victory.

Nationals 5, Mets 3 (7 1/2 ): At Washington, Toma Ohka allowed just two hits in six shutout innings as a late replacement for an ailing Zach Day, and the Nationals beat New York in a game called before the bottom of the eighth because of rain. The Mets filed a protest because it took the grounds crew 31 minutes to cover the infield.

Padres 2, Diamondbacks 0: At San Diego, Sean Burroughs hit a rare home run and Brian Lawrence (2-3) rebounded nicely from the shortest start of his career to lead the Padres over Arizona.

Dodgers 6, Rockies 2: At Los Angeles, Brad Penny (1-0) pitched six scoreless innings and rookie Jason Repko hit a three-run homer, leading the Dodgers past Colorado.

Marlins 2, Phillies 1 (5 1/2 ): At Philadelphia, Dontrelle Willis (5-0) allowed one unearned run to lead Florida over the Phillies in a game shortened to 5 1/2 innings because of rain.
