‘Hobbit’ opens at Playhouse

The Spokesman-Review

The Lake City Playhouse in Coeur d’Alene presents a stage adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” beginning Friday.

This version, adapted by Patricia Gray, is aimed at families and features a cast of more than 30 local children. Jack Green directs.

All of the characters from the book will come alive on stage – even Smaug the Dragon. Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf are the main characters in this story, which serves as a prelude to “The Lord of the Rings.”

“The Hobbit” opens Friday and continues through June 4. Showtimes are 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, 7 p.m. on Thursdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays.

Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors and $8 for youth. Thursdays are discount nights, with tickets $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and youth.

Come dressed as a character from Middle Earth in full costume and receive half off the regular ticket price (excluding Thursdays).

Call (208) 667-1323 for tickets and reservations.

This production should not be confused with the musical version of “The Hobbit” now being presented by the Spokane Children’s Theatre.

The Lake City Playhouse is Coeur d’Alene’s community theater at 1320 E. Garden Ave.
