Twins 4, Blue Jays 0: At Minneapolis, Joe Mays scattered seven hits in his first complete game since 2002, pitching Minnesota past Toronto. Michael Cuddyer’s two-run double with the bases loaded in the sixth inning broke a scoreless tie and chased Blue Jays starter Gustavo Chacin. Former Gonzaga Prep and Gonzaga University catcher Mike Redmond greeted reliever Jason Frasor with a two-run single.

Devil Rays 6, Tigers 2: At Detroit, Nick Green and Damon Hollins homered, and Tampa Bay snapped a four-game losing streak with a victory over Detroit.

Royals 7, Orioles 4: At Kansas City, Mo., Emil Brown hit a three-run homer, Angel Berroa added a solo shot and Kansas City finally held on to a lead against Baltimore. In its three previous games against the East leaders, Kansas City blew leads of six, seven and three runs.

National League

Phillies 7, Cardinals 4: At Philadelphia, Pat Burrell had three hits and two RBIs, and Brett Myers had another solid outing, leading Philadelphia to a victory over St. Louis.

Nationals 3, Brewers 2: At Washington, Livan Hernandez won his sixth straight start and Washington beat Milwaukee to cap an impressive homestand (5-2).

Rockies 3, Giants 1: At Denver, rookie Jeff Francis stayed undefeated at Coors Field, throwing six innings and allowing one run in Colorado’s victory over San Francisco.

Diamondbacks 6, Astros 1: At Houston, rookie Brad Halsey outpitched Roger Clemens in a successful homecoming, and Luis Gonzalez hit a three-run homer to lead Arizona to a victory over Houston. Halsey (3-2) had the best start of his young career in his hometown of Houston, allowing just one run in seven innings. Jose Valverde got the final four outs for his first save.
