Toronto bounces back

Alexei Ponikarovsky scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period and the Toronto Maple Leafs rebounded from their worst loss in nearly 14 years with a 2-1 victory over the Florida Panthers Monday night in Toronto.

Ed Belfour made 31 saves for the Maple Leafs, who lost 8-0 to the rival Ottawa Senators on Saturday night – their most lopsided loss since Dec. 26, 1991, when Pittsburgh beat them 12-1.

Canadiens 4, Rangers 1: In New York, Steve Begin scored a short-handed goal 1:14 after Jaromir Jagr tied it for New York in the third period as Montreal got four third-period goals to beat the Rangers and earn a split in the home-and-home series.

The Washington Capitals and Florida Panthers will play Dec. 1, making up a game postponed from Saturday because of Hurricane Wilma.
