CYT’s ‘Oliver!’ playing at Met
A warehouse fire destroyed sets and costumes of a local theater troupe, but the show must go on.
The Christian Youth Theater Spokane still is presenting its production of “Oliver!” continuing today, Sunday and Nov. 12 at The Met, 901 W. Sprague Ave.
Volunteers worked around the clock last weekend building and painting new sets for the musical, which opened Friday. Wells Fargo Bank donated the wood and tools.
Evening shows are at 7 p.m. today and Nov. 12. There also will be matinee performances at 3 p.m. today, Sunday and Nov. 12.
Advance tickets are $7 for seniors and children 12 and under and $8 for adults. Today’s matinee will be discounted to $5 for all seats. Tickets at the door are all $10.
The troupe also will perform a free preview of “The Velveteen Rabbit” today at 10 a.m. at Barnes & Noble, 15310 E. Indiana Ave., Spokane Valley.
The performance will include a narration of the story and a short scene from the play, which will be performed Nov. 18 to 20 at the CYT Theater, 708 W. Nora Ave.

Peace lecturer
Rev. Carter Heyward will speak on the topic of “Peace Building in Times of Terror: Living in Dimensions,” Sunday at 7 p.m. in the K-House, 720 NE Thatuna, Pullman.
Heyward is the author of “Flying Changes: Horses as Spiritual Teachers” and “God in the Balance: Christian Spirituality in Times of Terror.” She also is an Episcopal priest, lesbian feminist Christian theologian and founder of Free Rein Center for Therapeutic Riding in North Carolina.
