Knicks get second win

Jamal Crawford scored 20 points and the New York Knicks held Utah scoreless for almost 9 1/2 minutes in the third quarter while pulling ahead for their second straight win, 73-62 over the Jazz on Monday night in Salt Lake City.

The Knicks set a team record for fewest points allowed and won for only the second time under new coach Larry Brown. Although New York played the night before in a 105-95 win at Sacramento, it was the Jazz who looked weary while shooting 27 for 75 – the worst percentage in team history (29.3).

Rookie Deron Williams led the Jazz with 18 points and five assists.

Grizzlies 85, Lakers 73: In Memphis, Tenn., Pau Gasol had 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead Memphis to a victory over Los Angeles. Eddie Jones added 16 points for the Grizzlies and Mike Miller had 13 before being helped to the locker room with just under 2 minutes left after banging his right knee while scrambling on the floor for the ball.

Shane Battier had 11 points and 11 rebounds for Memphis, and Lorenzen Wright had 12 rebounds.

Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 18 points and Chris Mihm had 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Warriors 100, Bulls 82: In Oakland, Calif., Jason Richardson scored a season-high 32 points as Golden State cruised past Chicago.

Mike Dunleavy and Troy Murphy scored 15 points apiece for the Warriors, who got just 10 points and six assists from point guard Baron Davis.

Off the court

Phoenix’s America West Arena will become US Airways Center sometime in January.

The name change follows the merger of America West Airlines and US Airways, completed Sept. 27. The downtown building, home to the NBA’s Phoenix Suns, has been called America West Arena since it opened in 1992. The exact date of the official name change was not announced.

“The Sacramento Kings were fined $30,000 by the NBA for showing derogatory images of Detroit on video screens prior to their home opener against the Pistons.

When the Pistons were introduced Nov. 8, the Arco Arena scoreboard flashed pictures of abandoned buildings, burned-out cars, piles of rubble and other negative images of Detroit. The Pistons won the game 102-88.
