After Hollins made the catch, David Newhan tagged up and advanced to third, then was awarded home to make it 4-2 after Hollins threw the ball into the seats.
Twins 7, Tigers 3: At Minneapolis, rookie Francisco Liriano allowed five hits in seven innings for his first major league win, and Justin Morneau hit a grand slam to lead Minnesota over Detroit.
National League
Astros 3, Cubs 1: At Houston, Roger Clemens allowed one run in seven innings while pitching on a still-sore left hamstring, leading the Astros over Chicago. If Houston wins or Philadelphia loses today, the Astros are in the playoffs. If the Astros lose and the Phillies win today, Houston would go to Philadelphia for a one-game tiebreaker playoff Monday.
Phillies 8, Nationals 4: At Washington, Chase Utley homered twice, Ryan Howard hit an upper-deck shot and a three-run double, and Philadelphia beat the Nationals.
Cardinals 9, Reds 6: At St. Louis, Larry Walker hit two home runs and the Cardinals moved within a game of becoming baseball’s only 100-win team by beating Cincinnati.
Dodgers 2, Padres 1: At San Diego, Edwin Jackson and five relievers combined on a three-hitter for Los Angeles, which snapped the Padres’ four-game winning streak.
Marlins 6, Braves 4: At Miami, Josh Willingham and pinch-hitter Lenny Harris both had two-run singles in the eighth, rallying Florida over Atlanta in a game that included a rain delay of more than three hours.
Diamondbacks 2, Giants 1 (11): At San Francisco, Royce Clayton lined a tiebreaking double in the 11th for his fourth hit of the day, and Arizona won its season-best seventh straight game with a victory over the Giants.
Pirates 5, Brewers 1: At Pittsburgh, Kip Wells allowed one earned run in 6 2/3 innings to defeat Milwaukee and avoid becoming the Pirates’ first 19-game loser in 20 years. Wells (8-18) leads the major leagues in losses.
