Whit freshman wins golf title

In just his second golf tournament, Whitworth freshman Bobby Elder won his first collegiate title Monday, capturing the Northwest Conference Washington Tournament at Lake Spanaway with a 6-over-par 71-77–148.

With Elder winning by a stroke, the Pirates had three of the top four finishers and won the team title, 603-622 over Pacific Lutheran. Whitworth’s Collin Fling (150) was third and Jordan Carter (152) fourth.

Girls soccer

Sophomore Ali Fenter scored a hat trick in 15 minutes, interrupted by halftime, in leading Shadle Park (8-2, 6-2 GSL) to a 7-0 Greater Spokane League win in Clarkston (0-11, 0-8) on Monday in a match rescheduled from this Friday.

Nicole Ervin had a goal and an assist and Jen Schwartz four saves in collecting the shutout for the Highlanders.

Cross country

Idaho’s Dee Olson was selected the Western Athletic Conference women’s athlete of the week after taking first place at the Willamette Invitational on Saturday.

Olson, a junior, won the 5K race in 17 minutes, 1.50 seconds to lead the Vandals to a sixth-place team finish.

Olson was second at the Sundodger Invitational on Sept. 17.
