Panhandle Picks with Greg Lee
With three weeks left in the regular season, yours truly has a 12th season victory well within my grasp.
For the second consecutive week, the Scribe went 9-1 to knock off the guest picker, Kellogg athletic director Troy Schueller. The scoreboard reads: Lee 49-18 (.731), the guests 46-21 (.689).
My guest this week is District I volleyball and softball commissioner Lisa Paull. Originally from Chicago – yes, she’s a Bears fan – Paull moved to Sandpoint in 1987. By day, she manages FAST – the Fitness and Sports Training Center – where she trains athletes to increase their speed, agility, vertical jump, core strength and balance.
Lake City at Lewiston: This has the potential to be a close game or a blowout.
If it’s a blowout, it will be the Timberwolves winning going away. Even if it’s tight, LC should prevail. LC has much more depth than the Bengals, who could tire in the fourth quarter.
Lewiston features two talented running backs, Noah McKay and Brooks Reynolds. Calling the offensive plays is former head coach Nick Menegas. The combination could keep the T-Wolves on their heels. LC 36, Lewiston 20.
Guest: Lake City hasn’t lost in Lewiston in the last few years and the Timberwolves are coming off a big scoring game against Sandpoint. Although some feel they are the underdogs, I believe they will overcome the obstacles and ride the momentum of their last win to a win in Lewiston. LC 28, Lewiston 21.
Lakeland at Post Falls: I’m picking an upset here. The Trojans are favored, but I see the Hawks rising up.
It will take defense for Lakeland to hold off Post Falls. This could be a rapidly played game because neither team is likely to pass much. But I’m going with a hunch here. Lakeland 14, Post Falls 13.
Guest: Although Lakeland is using some of the same new equipment that I use, it hasn’t been able to use the entire program that will put them on top of their competition. Post Falls will take this by a small margin, but look out for Lakeland next season. Post Falls 21, Lakeland 14.
Timberlake at Bonners Ferry: If I could be any other place but Lewiston, Kenny Mendenhall Stadium would get the nod. The host, senior-rich Badgers are heavily favored against the young Tigers. BF 28, Timberlake 14.
Guest: Bonners Ferry beat Lakeland to start the year. They are a strong team and I believe they will beat Timberlake. BF 21, Timberlake 7.
