UCLA’s powder-blue duds have become one of college football’s most famous uniforms. With Washington State University adopting a new look before this season, it seemed an appropriate time to get Mkristo Bruce and Adam Braidwood talking about the new Cougars look, uniforms in general, and what teammates can do to look good on the field.

MB: I like our white uniforms.

AB: I’m a big fan of the Raiders. Any time you can wear black, black jerseys are sweet. It’s a classic.

MB: The Raiders are good.

AB: I’m a big fan of all the throwbacks that are going around. I saw Wisconsin had the “W” on their helmet, went a little throwback. All that has been real cool. For a while some of the stuff was getting a little outlandish.

MB: I like the old-school look.

AB: Yeah, not a lot of flash. Just the numbers and solid colors. I like how we did that.

MB: I really like our home jerseys. You know I was watching one of the old games the other day. Did you know we used to wear all white?

AB: I hated that.

MB: I thought that looked good.

AB: We agree to disagree.

MB: You know, we were talking today about (defensive end Matt) Mullenix’s bad fashion statement.

AB: Yeah, some guys when they come on the practice field, they just don’t look right.

MB: They just look bad. That’s Mullenix.

AB: Some guys just can’t pull it off. Like big, fat guys in just white. Ooooooh.

MB: That doesn’t look good.

AB (nodding): It’s not going to help.

MB: Some of these DBs, they come out here and you’re like, “Aw, why didn’t I think of that?” They come out here looking real sweet, pants rolled up. And then you see Mullenix and he’s got a red knee brace and a black knee brace. Braidwood was talking today to Mully about how we were going to dress him.

AB: I hate long socks too. NFL ones are cool because they’re kind of multicolored. They always go with the uniforms. But just the solid white? When we used to wear red socks with the white uniforms, that was the worst. I used to hate putting those things on.
