‘Cowboy Up on the Palouse’ offers music, poetry, tall tales

The 10th annual Palouse Country Cowboy Poetry and Western Music Festival runs Friday through Sunday at the Palouse Empire Fairgrounds in Colfax.

Presented by the Palouse Country Cowboy Poets Association, the “Cowboy Up on the Palouse” event will include a variety of entertainers including a pair of Canadians, musician Tammy Gislason and poet Mike Puhallo, featured in Saturday night’s show.

Open-mike music and poetry sessions will run Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with headliner shows both nights. There will be Tall Tales contests on Saturday at 11 a.m. for adult performers and at 2 p.m. for youth, and a Cowboy Church on Sunday at 10 a.m.

Accompanying events include trail horse and ranch dog clinics Friday and Saturday, a show calf sale Saturday night and a team-branding event Sunday. Art, craft and food vendors will be on-site throughout the weekend.

Admission is $10 per day, or $25 for a three-day pass. RV parking and camping sites are available.
