Steelers prove point to Bengals
Not yet, Bengals. Not quite yet.
Ben Roethlisberger threw two touchdown passes in his return from a knee injury, and the Pittsburgh Steelers proved they’re still the team to beat in the AFC North by beating upstart Cincinnati 27-13 on Sunday in Cincinnati.
The Steelers haven’t lost their knack for winning tough games in tough places. They dominated the second half in front of a Cincinnati-record crowd of 66,104, setting a franchise record with their 10th straight road victory.
Willie Parker’s 39-yard touchdown run highlighted a 221-yard performance by Pittsburgh’s running game. Parker ran for 131 yards overall.
Hines Ward’s 4-yard touchdown catch on the final play of the third quarter put the Steelers up 24-6.
Vikings 23, Packers 20
Something finally went right for Minnesota.
Paul Edinger kicked a career-long 56-yard field goal as time ran out, lifting the momentum-starved Vikings to a victory over stunned Green Bay in Minneapolis.
After losing their last two games by a combined 58-13 score and allegations of sexual misconduct by several players on a boat party emerging, the Vikings trailed 17-0 in the third quarter and appeared headed for another defeat.
But Daunte Culpepper, who went 23 for 31 for 280 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions, came to life – and Edinger came through with his third field goal of the game.
Green Bay’s Ryan Longwell tied it at 20 with 24 seconds left on a 39-yard kick after missing two earlier field goals. After the kickoff, Culpepper threw a 14-yard pass to Mewelde Moore and a 12-yard pass to Marcus Robinson – who stepped out and stopped the clock with 2 seconds left on the Packers’ 38.
Brett Favre hit 28 for 36 passes for 315 yards and two TDs for the Packers.
Colts 38, Texans 20
Indianapolis hit the road and beat Houston to improve to 7-0 for the first time in franchise history.
Edgerrin James rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns for the Colts.
Indianapolis reeled off 24 straight second-half points and held the winless Texans to minus-4 yards after halftime after allowing Houston to head into halftime tied at 14.
Raiders 38, Bills 17
Lamont Jordan ran for 122 yards and a career-high three touchdowns, Randy Moss added a 22-yard TD catch after being listed as doubtful to play, and Oakland beat Buffalo in Oakland, Calif.
Kerry Collins, sacked on Oakland’s opening drive and booed afterward, completed nine of 10 passes on consecutive touchdown drives late in the second quarter and early in the third as the Raiders took control. He finished 19 for 27 for 261 yards to help Oakland score more than 20 points for the first time all season.
Redskins 52, 49ers 17
Washington piled up 448 yards of offense and scored on seven of its nine possessions en route to a victory over San Francisco in Landover, Md.
Clinton Portis rushed for 101 yards and his first three touchdowns of the season for the Redskins, who led 35-7 at the half. Washington quarterback Mark Brunell completed 13 of 20 passes for 252 yards and three TDs.
Rams 28, Saints 17
Steven Jackson scored on a pair of short runs and Kevin Curtis got the go-ahead touchdown on a 5-yard reverse with 5:58 to go as St. Louis rallied to beat visiting New Orleans.
A pair of failed trick plays came back to haunt the Saints, who squandered a 14-point first-quarter lead. A QB sneak on a fake field goal on fourth-and-1 was stuffed for no gain near the end of the third quarter and Donte’ Stallworth’s fumble on a fourth-quarter reverse led to the go-ahead score.
Lions 13, Browns 10
Quarterback Jeff Garcia, making his first start this season in place of Joey Harrington, ran for a TD and Jason Hanson kicked two field goals to lead Detroit to a road win over Cleveland.
Garcia finished 22 of 34 for 210 yards and didn’t turn the ball over.
Cardinals 20, Titans 10
David Macklin returned an interception 61 yards for a touchdown and Arizona turned three Tennessee turnovers into 17 points and a victory over the Titans in Tempe, Ariz.
Neil Rackers kicked field goals of 33 and 24 yards to improve to 20-for-20 this season for the Cardinals, who trailed 10-0 in the first quarter.
Bears 10, Ravens 6
Kyle Orton threw a first-quarter touchdown pass to Marc Edwards and Thomas Jones ran for 83 of his 139 yards in the final period to help the Chicago beat visiting Baltimore.
It was Chicago’s first win this season outside the abysmal NFC North.
