G-Prep edges Wildcats
Gonzaga Prep continued its undefeated season at home Wednesday, shutting out Mt. Spokane 1-0 in Greater Spokane League girls soccer.
After a scoreless first half, Tara Cronin scored the game-winning goal for the Bullpups (4-0, 2-0) at the 50-minute mark, assisted by Sarah Dean. Kalie Phillipy recorded 10 saves for the Wildcats (2-1, 1-1).
•Also in the GSL, Kirsten Bafus led Ferris with a goal and two assists in a 4-1 win at Cheney. The Blackhawks (2-2, 0-2) tied the match early in the second half, but the Saxons (2-1, 2-0) scored three unanswered goals, including two from Dominique Arias. … Katija Margitich of Shadle Park (3-1, 1-1) scored the game-winning goal in the second overtime during a 1-0 win at North Central. The Indians (1-3, 0-2) were outshot 15-5. Margitich scored with a header off of a corner kick from Ashley Fritts. … Alix Silha scored a pair of second-half goals to lead Lewis and Clark in a 5-1 win at West Valley (2-2, 0-2). The Tigers (3-1, 2-0) received a goal and assist from Katie Dittman. … Lindsey Moles and Jacie White scored two goals apiece in East Valley’s 7-0 win at Clarkston (0-3, 0-2). Moles leads the Knights (3-1, 2-0) with five goals on the season. … Libby Amsbaugh scored twice to lead University in a 7-0 home win over Rogers (0-3, 0-2). The Titans (4-0, 2-0) also received multiple-point games from Alicia Knowles and Michelle Nichols. … Jenny McKinsey scored the only two goals of the match in Central Valley’s home win over Mead. The Panthers (2-2, 0-2) were stymied by the Bears (2-2, 2-0), in large part thanks to Mallory Flesher’s nine saves in net.
•Shadle Park posted a 3-1 win over host North Central (2-2) in GSL volleyball. The Highlanders (3-1) were led by Stacy Anderson’s 11 kills, 14 digs, and two aces. … Also in the GSL, Gonzaga Prep (3-1) used Leslie Whigham’s 10 kills and Megan Higgins’ 12 assists to crush host Cheney 3-0. The Blackhawks fell to 0-4.
