G-Prep bounces back to tip Shadle
Elizabeth Hardan and Kristana Fruci each had nine kills as Gonzaga Prep came back to upend Shadle Park 20-25, 11-25, 25-23, 25-19, 15-11 Thursday in Greater Spokane League volleyball action at Gonzaga Prep.
After losing the first two games, the Bullpups (5-3) took the third and fourth games before taking an 8-2 lead in Game 5.
The Highlanders (6-2) – behind the 14 kills of Brynn Delong and the 23 digs, three blocks and two aces of Stacy Andersen – evened up matters in the final game, but G-Prep pulled away at the end to win it.
Hardan added 24 assists and Fruci added four blocks for the Bullpups.
In other GSL action, Maddy Lorenz had match highs in kills (24) and digs (25) as Ferris (5-3) lost the first game but swept the next three to beat North Central 23-25, 25-22, 25-15, 26-24 at Ferris. Anna Walters had 13 kills for the Indians (3-5). … Janie Rasmussen had six kills, and Mt. Spokane (6-2) finished with 24 aces in a 25-20, 25-13, 25-12 win over Cheney (1-7) at Mt. Spokane. … Ashley Hutchinson had six kills and Jessica Stebbins six aces as Mead (8-0) cruised past West Valley (3-5) 25-10, 25-10, 25-15 at West Valley. … Trisha Hiebert had 11 kills, and Stephanie Bellefeuille added 28 assists and four aces as East Valley (3-5) swept Clarkston 25-16, 25-19, 25-8 at East Valley. Jaimie Berghammer had five kills and two blocks for Clarkston (0-8).
•Kelly Tikker finished with 18 kills and six digs as Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) swept Colville 25-14, 25-20, 25-12 in Great Northern League action at Colville. Kia Gibson added six digs and four blocks for Lakeside (4-1). Colville fell to 3-3 in league play. … In other GNL action, Brooke Schanzenbach had five kills and Maddie Kernan added 26 assists as Chewelah (3-2) swept Deer Park (0-5) 25-14, 25-16, 25-12 at Deer Park. Jordan Monasmith chipped in with 12 digs for Chewelah.
Girls soccer
Courtney Kelly scored off a rebound five minutes in as Medical Lake won its first league match of the season, a 1-0 triumph over at Chewelah. Goalkeeper Jasmine Williams made four saves as ML (2-4, 1-2, 3 points) outshot Chewelah (1-6, 0-4, 1 point) 14-6. … In other GNL action, Laura Gibson scored her second goal of the match on a breakaway two minutes into overtime as Deer Park (4-4, 2-2, 6 points) rallied to beat Colville (3-3, 1-3, 3 points) 2-1 at Colville. Carly Gauche opened the scoring in the 31st minute for Colville, but Gibson scored in the 48th and then the 82nd to give the Stags the win. … Katie Spangenberg scored and assisted on Cory Druffel‘s goal as Pullman (7-1, 4-0, 12 points) earned its seventh shutout in eight matches by beating Lakeside (3-4, 2-2, 5 points) 2-0 at Pullman.

Katie Watson had 14 kills and the match-clinching ace as Sandpoint, down 2-1 in games and 8-3 in the final game, came back to beat Coeur d’Alene 25-13, 19-25, 18-25, 25-10, 16-14 in Inland Empire League volleyball action at Sandpoint. Savana Lester added 30 digs for the Bulldogs (2-5 in league). Rachel Moore had 12 kills and eight blocks for Coeur d’Alene (4-4). … In other IEL action, Kelly Scott finished with 11 kills and Kelsey Taylor with four blocks as Moscow (8-0) swept Lakeland (3-5) 25-15, 25-12, 25-13 at Moscow. … Lewiston (2-3), buoyed by Joey Larsen‘s 27 assists and 24 digs, lost the first two games, but rallied to force a fifth game before finally falling to Post Falls (3-5) at Lewiston.
•Jenna Robinson finished with 13 kills and six digs as St. Maries rallied to defeat visiting Bonners Ferry 25-23, 24-26, 19-25, 25-18, 15-5 in Intermountain league play. Kelsi Lee had four aces for St. Maries (5-0) in a matchup of the IML’s top two teams.
