2003-04

WSU creates master plan to renovate and add seats to Martin Stadium

November 2004

National firm HOK Sport and local company Madsen Mitchell Evenson & Conrad are chosen as project architects

June 2005

Plan is dealt major setback when expected costs spiral past $100 million

July 2005

WSU creates new plan with more construction on north side, cutting costs significantly

November 2005

Construction phases are put into place, segmenting renovation into three, possibly four, major parts

March 2006

Students vote in favor of a referendum charging themselves $25 per semester for the next 25 years to help finance renovation

June 2006

Schematic design complete; design development period begins.

Summer 2006

Handrails to be added to aisles on south (press box) side stands

Fall 2006

Construction documents assembled, bids for construction accepted

December 2006

Construction on Phases I and II set to begin with an expected completion date before or during 2007 season. Phase I will provide for restrooms and concessions behind east and south stands, east entry will gain wrought iron and brick entrance, ticket office will move to east end. Phase II will widen north concourse over parking lot between Mooberry Track and Martin Stadium, current restrooms and concessions will be demolished and rebuilt on opposite side of concourse

Summer 2007

In a separate effort funded by other means, new scoreboard, video and audio systems would replace current setup behind west end zone

December 2007

Construction on Phase III set to begin with two separate projects; first, a combination of luxury suites, club seats and loge seats will be added atop the north stands, accessed from outside Martin Stadium and anchored by two pillars at an expected cost of $30-35 million; second, an upper deck would be added behind the east end zone, adding 5,500 seats at an expected cost of $13.5 million; rows would also be removed from the front of the south stands to create a thoroughfare from the east end to the west end. Phase III construction could take 18 months and would leave Martin Stadium with an approximate capacity of 43,000

Beyond 2009

West end zone stands could be re-done; no specific plans exist at this time

Note: All future dates are tentative and in most cases assume no delays or alterations to the current track.
