Madonna and Guy Ritchie have retreated from their home in England to Los Angeles, where they are patching things up after a bumpy period in their marriage.

“L.A. seems to have helped them,” Ritchie’s father, John Ritchie, told Closer magazine. “It’s easier out there because there is less pressure. They seem to have left the bumps they were having over here behind them,”

Reports of a rift arose after Madonna didn’t thank her film-director husband when she won a Brit Award in February.

“You can never know that things will work, but they do seem to be fitting into each other more,” John Ritchie said.

The younger Ritchie, 37, and Madonna, 47, were married Dec. 22, 2000, and have a son, Rocco, 5. She also has a daughter, Lourdes, 9.

“It’s the children that will keep them together. The children are everything to them,” John Ritchie said.

How J.Lo can you go?

Jennifer Lopez is suing her first husband, claiming he demanded $5 million to keep him from publishing a book containing private details about her and their relationship.

Lopez claims Ojani Noa violated a confidentiality agreement by sending the text to publishers. She’s seeking a restraining order to keep the manuscript from becoming public.

The couple met when Noa was working as a waiter at a Miami restaurant. They married in 1997 and divorced a year later.

Wedding vowels

Actors Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard are engaged and expecting a baby.

It will be the first marriage for both actors, who have been dating for four years.

Gyllenhaal, 28, next appears in Oliver Stone‘s upcoming “World Trade Center.” Sarsgaard, 35, co-starred with her brother, Jake Gyllenhaal, in last year’s war drama “Jarhead.”

Round two for Ali

Former Miss USA Ali Landry married movie director Alejandro Monteverde in Mexico over the weekend.

The “Eve” co-star appears in Monteverde’s upcoming film “Bella,” due out later this year. They reportedly met at Bible study last year.

Her 2004 marriage to Mario Lopez (“Saved By the Bell”) was annulled after seven weeks.

Baser instincts?

Michael Douglas says he was misquoted in a GQ article last month in which he allegedly slammed Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie over Pitt’s split with Jennifer Aniston.

The story quoted him as saying: “I don’t know about Brad Pitt, leaving that beautiful wife to go hold orphans for Angelina. I mean, how long is that going to last?”

Douglas, who denies the comment, says he feels the situation stemmed from pressure on magazines to be “exploitative” in order “to try to attract people for their circulation.”
