Shocked by Shock

The Spokesman-Review

March 30 marked the inaugural game of the Spokane Shock, Spokane’s new arenafootball2 team, and let me say I was indeed shocked.

I was very impressed at the level of play that I witnessed and the overall intensity of arena football. I believe Spokane is the perfect home for a new af2 franchise.

The reason I believe Spokane is the best place for the Shock team is that some of the players are local college standouts. The Shock’s starting receiver, Raul Vijil, was only a second-tier player at Eastern Washington University, but last week for the Shock he caught five touchdowns. He has great lateral quickness that allows him to evade would-be tacklers making him a potential star in the league.

The Shock’s kick returner, Charles Frederick, was an outstanding utility player at the University of Washington. Frederick had 831 yards receiving, and five touchdowns his junior year. His great speed and vision make him a threat to take it to the house anytime his hands touch the football.

Spokane will embrace these local players and the Shock for years to come.
