Darin Holcomb and Brian Yardley had an RBI apiece in each game Tuesday as the Spokane RiverHawks took control of the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League with a 2-1, 3-0 sweep of Moses Lake at Avista Stadium.

Spokane (26-13) leads Wenatchee (23-14) by two games as it heads into its final series of the regular season, a three-game set at Bellingham that starts Friday.

Matt Crowe won the opener, limiting the Pirates (14-25) to five hits over seven innings.

Cale Ort, Tommy Tribbett and Josh Williamson combined on the second-game shutout.

San Francisco was selected as the favorite to capture its third straight West Coast Conference title, edging out Bay Area rival Santa Clara for the first-place spot in the preseason coaches poll.

Gonzaga checked in at No. 7 in the poll despite the return of junior forward George Josten, who led the WCC with 12 goals last season. Einar Thorarinsson was tabbed for WCC Co-Coach of the Year accolades after leading the Zags to a 7-9-4 finish in 2005.
